✔️ Pros of the Book
a) Easy for All Aspirants
The best thing about Neetu Singh’s English for General Competitions Vol 1 is that it is in bilingual format, due to which those who find pure English books difficult will also easily understand the grammar rules, explanations and examples through this book.
b) Strong Focus on Grammar Basics
The second special thing about this book by Neetu Singh is that every important grammar topic has been covered in great detail in it such as-
- Verb
- Parts of Speech
- Tense
- Modals
- Subject-Verb Agreement
- Passive Voice
- Narration
- Article
- Conditional Sentences
- Prepositions
- Inversion
- Sentence Improvement etc.
There are total 34 chapters in this book. Every chapter has been designed in such a step by step process that you can easily understand the concept. If you are a beginner then this becomes very important for you.

c) Rule-Based Concept + Practice Approach
As I have already told you, the clarity of the concepts of this book is amazing. The concepts of every topic have been explained first through rules, so that you will understand the concepts easily. This book will be very helpful in building your concepts.
Not only this, practice questions are also given immediately after understanding the theory, so that you can revise that topic well and if there are any doubts, they also get cleared.
d) Based on SSC Pattern
This book is completely exam oriented. Every topic has been designed by closely following the SSC pattern. Also the examples and practice questions given in every chapter are mostly SSC PYQs. This book will be very helpful for you from the exam point of view.
e) Simple Language, Clean Layout
Another standout feature of this book by Neetu Singh is that the content of every chapter of this book has been explained in simple language.
The layout has also been kept simple and readable, which will give you comfort while reading.
❌️ Cons of the Book
a) Limited Vocabulary Section
Let me tell you that Neetu Singh’s English for General Competitions Vol 1 is completely focused on grammar, so you will not get topics like Comprehension, Cloze Test, Sentence Arrangement etc. which are important parts of any competitive exams with this book. To cover these topics you will have to buy a separate book. For this you can take Neetu Singh’s English for General Competitions Vol 2 in which chapters like Vocabulary, Phrases & Idioms, Comprehension have been covered in detail.
b) There is no explanation in the answers of the exercises.
Another negative point which I did not like is that in this book, only the answers to the questions in the exercises have been given, detailed explanations have not been given. So if you are a beginner, you may have a problem understanding the answer as to why the answer is wrong or correct. For this, you can use Neetu Mam‘s YouTube videos or KD Live App where your concept will become clearer and better.
c) Not for advanced level students
This book by Neetu Singh will seem a little basic to those aspirants whose English is already good or those who are preparing for CAT, CLAT, GMAT etc. Type exams. The book can be said to be best for beginner or intermediate level students who are preparing for exams like SSC, Railway, Banking.
Personal Suggestions
- Start from page 1 – You will get maximum benefit from this book only if you start from chapter 1, even if you know the basics. The content of this book is rule-based which will form a strong foundation for your grammar.
- Make a notebook of rules and exceptions and highlight any points that you find confusing so that it will be easy for you to practice during revision time.
- Focus on one chapter every week and revise after that. Do not skip the examples at all as similar type of MCQs come in exams too.
- Revise tough chapters like Modals, Tense, Noun, Narration, Prepositions multiple times.
