SSC CGL exam is conducted in two Tiers which is Computer Based Test (CBT)

Tier 1Screening Round

Tier 2 – Final Selection Round

  • Skill Test

Candidates who qualify Tier 1 exam are shortlisted for Tier 2. Final selection is based only on Tier 2 marks. But qualifying both Tier 1 and Tier 2 is mandatory.

SSC CGL Exam 2025 Pattern

If you are preparing for SSC CGL for the first time, then it becomes more important for you to understand the entire exam structure. This will make it clear to you which paper is conducted when and how.

Tier 1 Exam Pattern

  • Total Questions: 100
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Duration: 1 Hr
  • Negative Marking: 0.50 per wrong answer
  • Type: Objective Multiple Choice Questions
  • Medium: English and Hindi ( Except English Comprehension)

Tier 1 is only qualifying in nature, but it shortlists you for Tier 2 Exam. Its marks are not added to the Final Merit List. You just have to qualify it.

Tier 2 Exam Pattern

🟡 Tier 2 has two Papers- Paper-I & Paper-II which are conducted in separate shift(s)/day(s)

🟡 Paper-I is compulsory for all posts and Paper-II is only for those candidates who apply for specific posts.

🟡 Paper-I is conducted in two Sessions- Session-I & Session-II  on the same day.

🟡 Again Subjects of Paper-I are divided into three Sections, each section has 2 Modules

🟡 In Session I, both Modules of Section I, both Modules of Section II and Module I of Section III are conducted together. So, there are total 5 Modules in Session I.

Strategy Tips for SSC CGL Preparation

👉 Focus on Syllabus – Focus on those topics which are given in the syllabus. Do not waste time by studying irrelevant topics. Be consistent with studies.

👉 Concentrate more on Tier 2 Paper 1 – final selection depends on its marks.

👉 Limited Resources: You have to keep limited books only. There is no need to read all the books. Follow maximum two books for each subject – one concept heavy book and one practice book. Do not read from different places.
