Your exact age

Exam eligibility for your category

Each exam is checked against its own usual cut-off date in the year you selected.

Age limits, relaxations and cut-off dates change with every notification, and this tool does not check qualifications or attempt limits. Always confirm in the official notification before you apply.

What is an age calculator for government exams?

Your age decides whether you can apply for a government job. Miss the limit by a single day and the form is not for you. This age calculator for government exams tells you your exact age in years, months and days. It then checks that age against the limits of 12 popular exams, using your category.
A normal age calculator by date of birth only counts years. This one works as an age eligibility calculator too. It uses each exam’s own cut-off date, adds your category relaxation, and shows if you are eligible, too young, or over the upper age limit. You also see the last cut-off date you can still use.

The tool covers UPSC Civil Services, SSC CGL, IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, SBI PO, SBI Clerk, RRB NTPC and APSC CCE. Think of it as a simple exam age limit calculator and government job age calculator in one place.

How to use this age calculator?

1) Enter your date of birth. Use the date on your Class 10 certificate, because most notifications ask for it.

2) Pick your category. Choose General, EWS, OBC (non-creamy layer), SC or ST.

3) Tick PwBD if you are a person with benchmark disability.

4) Add other relaxation in years if you qualify, for example as an ex-serviceman. Leave it blank if you do not.

5) Choose the cut-off year. Keep “Next upcoming cut-off” for the next exam cycle, or pick a year yourself.

6) Tap “Calculate my age“. You get your exact age and a result for every exam.

7) Download the PDF if you want to save the report or share it.

The “Calculate age as on” box lets you find your age on any date. It starts with today’s date, so you can also use the tool as a plain date of birth calculator.

How age eligibility works in government exams?

The cut-off date matters, not today’s date

Every notification names a date for counting your age, called the cut-off date. UPSC and SSC CGL use 1 August. SBI uses 1 April. RRB NTPC and APSC CCE use 1 January. Your age on that date counts, even if you turn a year older the next day.

“Must not have attained” the upper age

Most notifications say you must not have attained the upper age on the cut-off date. That means you need to be below the limit, not on it. Take the UPSC Civil Services 2026 notice as an example. It set the General limit at 32 years with 1 August 2026 as the cut-off. Candidates born between 2 August 1994 and 1 August 2005 could apply. A candidate born on 1 August 1994 turned 32 on the cut-off date, so that candidate was too old.

The tool follows this rule. Some notifications word it differently, such as APSC CCE’s “not more than 38 years”. If your age falls in that grey zone, the tool shows “Check notification” instead of guessing.

Age limit for popular government exams

This list shows the usual upper age limit by category. The numbers are the standard limits that the tool uses. Exam bodies change them from time to time, so always read the latest official notification.

*Recent RRB notifications have given a one-time extra age relaxation, so the limits for the current cycle can be higher. Check the latest RRB notice before you rely on these numbers.

Among the exams in this tool, APSC CCE has the highest upper age limit for General candidates at 38 years. A SC or ST candidate gets up to 43 years there. Other state and department exams can allow even more, so read each notification.

Age relaxation for OBC, SC, ST, EWS and PwBD

Reserved categories get extra years on the upper age limit. The minimum age stays the same for everyone.

CategoryUsual relaxation on the upper limit
General/UnreservedNone
EWSNone
OBC (non-creamy layer)3 Years
SC/ST5 Years
PwBD10 years extra (13 for OBC, 15 for SC/ST). For APSC CCE, 10 years on the base limit for every category.
Ex-servicemen and othersVaries by exam. Enter it in the “Other relaxation” box.

You need a valid certificate to claim any relaxation. The category certificate usually has to follow the government format, and some notifications also set a date by which it must be issued. Read that section of the notification before you apply.

Example: how the calculator works

Aman was born on 15 March 1998. He enters this date and picks the 2027 cut-off year. On 1 August 2027, Aman is 29 years, 4 months and 17 days old.

  • As a General candidate: He can apply for UPSC (limit 32), SSC CGL posts with 18-30 or 18-32 years, and IBPS PO. He cannot apply for SSC CGL posts with a 27-year limit or for IBPS Clerk.
  • As an OBC candidate: The 3-year relaxation lifts the SSC CGL 18-27 limit to 30, so he becomes eligible there. IBPS Clerk also opens, with a limit of 31.

The tool also shows his last eligible cut-off date for each exam. For UPSC as a General candidate, that date is 14 March 2030. He can plan his attempts around it.

Common mistakes when you check age eligibility

  • Using today’s date. Use the cut-off date from the notification instead.
  • Using a wrong date of birth. Match it with your Class 10 certificate.
  • Ignoring the minimum age. Some candidates apply a few months early and lose the application fee.
  • Counting relaxation twice. A candidate claims one category relaxation, plus PwBD or ex-servicemen years only if the notification allows it.
  • Trusting an old limit. Exam bodies change age limits, so check the latest notification every time.

Tips before you apply

  • Read the age section of the official notification and note the cut-off date.
  • Run the calculator with that exact cut-off year.
  • Keep your Class 10 certificate and category certificate ready.
  • Save the PDF report, so you have your numbers when the form opens.
  • Check your qualification and attempt limits too. This tool does not check them.
